A New Benchmark for Greener Cooling Infrastructure

At the Zhangye Power Plant 2×1000 MW expansion project in Gansu, #SLG(Shuangliang) is applying an innovative all-steel indirect air-cooling tower solution designed for greater efficiency, safety and sustainability.

Standing 190 meters high with a base diameter of 120 meters, the two towers feature a modular steel structure that significantly reduces construction complexity and resource consumption.

Key advantages include:

• Nearly 50% shorter construction period
• Around 20% lower construction investment
• Reduced high-altitude work and improved construction safety
• Recyclable steel structure with lower resource consumption
• Stronger adaptability to the seismic and climatic conditions of Northwest China

The solution also integrates advanced heat-exchange design and sensing technologies to further improve system efficiency and operational reliability.

As part of Gansu’s integrated wind, solar, thermal power and energy storage development, the project will help strengthen grid flexibility and support the region’s transition toward a cleaner, lower-carbon energy system.
