Turning Waste Heat into Cooling: SLG Supports Greener Pulp & Paper Production

2026-10-29

SLG has delivered a new waste-heat-driven cooling solution for a major pulp and paper project, turning previously unused low-grade waste heat into valuable cooling energy.

The system uses waste heat from the alkali recovery process to drive an absorption chiller, producing 7°C process chilled water and directly replacing part of the original steam-driven cooling demand.

With a total cooling capacity of 8,455 kW, the project demonstrates how waste heat can be recovered and reused to reduce energy consumption, water use and carbon emissions.

As one of the first demonstration projects applying waste-heat cooling to tail-gas heat recovery in the pulp and paper industry, the solution provides a practical pathway for deeper energy efficiency improvements across high-energy-consumption industries.

SLG will continue to advance customized waste heat recovery and cooling technologies, helping industrial customers turn unused heat into productive energy and accelerate low-carbon transformation.
